The micro-grants program is part of the Lee County Unmet Needs Long-term Recovery Group (UNLTRG) long-term recovery efforts and a part of Lee County Government’s 2024 Action Plan. Micro-grants were awarded to partner organizations to provide eligible services directly to Lee County residents impacted by Hurricane Ian.
Funding provided by Lee County Board of County Commissioners and HUD through the CDBG-DR program.
Samaritan Health & Wellness Center in Cape Coral, FL, is a nonprofit providing affordable primary medical care, behavioral health counseling, and pastoral counseling for uninsured and underinsured individuals. Taking a holistic approach, addressing physical, mental, and spiritual health. Services are available for a small fee, and insurance is not accepted. The center is funded through grants, donations, and community support.
Fort Myers Long Term Recovery Center provides recovery programs to local under resourced community that will educate them to prepare, respond, and recover from disasters. This will be done by deploying comprehensive community development strategies that connect workforce development, housing and real estate with education, resident leadership and community safety to drive economic prosperity. Recovery programs will be directed towards Pre and Post Disaster Preparedness, 72 hour Survival, Community Recovery and Engagement, Workforce Development, and Business Development.
The Affordable Homeownership Foundation (AHF) is offering disaster-based counseling to clients, assisting them in navigating recovery resources and developing a plan for next steps to resolve any unmet needs. Assisting with home repairs by locating agencies and contractors to complete the work and collaborating with clients to develop a disaster plan for future storms. The AHF wants every client to be fully recovered, participate in the American dream, and be able to contribute to more stable, vital neighborhoods.
Providence Family Life offers several services to Lee County Residents. Ranging from The Hub, a Weekly Support Group for Older Adults 55+, that offers companionship and friendly conversations. To Behavior Health and Wellness Intervention, offering simple techniques using meditative mind, body, and movement interventions to help you build resilience and improve your overall well-being. Along with Disability Application Support Services, providing a team of trained professionals committed to providing expert documentation review and disability application assistance to children, youth (newborn to age 17), and adults.
Through these microgrant funds, Lee County Housing Development Corporation (LCHDC) provides comprehensive support to individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Ian. Services include housing counseling, case management, down payment assistance, and rehabilitation support for homeowners. In addition, we distribute essential supplies and connect clients to available recovery resources to help promote long-term housing stability.
Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties is enhancing our housing counseling program to help families achieve financial stability and long-term housing security. Specifically by providing one-on-one housing counseling to families navigating financial and housing challenges, improving financial literacy by educating families on credit management, budgeting, and housing options, and equipping families with the tools to achieve and maintain housing stability, ensuring they are prepared to manage homeownership or rental responsibilities successfully. This initiative empowers families with the knowledge and resources needed to secure safe, stable housing and build a strong foundation for their future.
Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida (AAASWFL) is assisting older adults and adults with disabilities engaged in ongoing recovery from Hurricane Ian. AAASWFL's Crisis Assistance Coordinator provides assistance with navigating available resources, assessing available program eligibility, and application support. To qualify for this assistance, you must be a Lee County resident age 60+ or age 18+ with a disability.
Chrysallis Wellness Center (CWC) delivers a holistic range of behavioral health services through its Comprehensive Mental Health Enhancement Services Project, designed to address the acute and long-term mental health needs of low-to-moderate-income residents in Lee County, Florida, affected by Hurricane Ian. This initiative integrates counseling, psychiatric care, medication management, and case management to support community recovery and resilience. Through our Comprehensive Mental Health Enhancement Services Project, we offer counseling, psychiatric care, medication management, and case management to ensure our community members receive the care they need to heal and thrive.
Family Initiative is providing enhanced services to the autism community. Family Initiative’s Autism Navigators are able to conduct a brief screening and identify supports, services, and resources to benefit families in their time of need. Additional services include the use of our Mobile Sensory Trailer, which is deployed during both blue skies and gray skies to provide sensory regulation and clinical support post storm and at community events to support ASD families who do not have access to the services. Clinicians are able to conduct assessments and evaluations in real time to provide support to families.
FISH OF SANCAP is proud to offer a wide range of services designed to support individuals and families on Sanibel and Captiva Islands. One of our newest and most well-received programs is the Fresh Meal Basket initiative, an expansion of our Food Pantry program. We are also expanding our non-emergency transportation program. These programs, along with FISH’s long-standing core services—our food pantry, hot meals delivery, financial assistance, equipment lending, hurricane preparedness outreach, and long-term recovery support—are vital to helping islanders maintain stability, dignity, and health in the face of ongoing challenges.

Midwest Food Bank Florida is using these funds to support the ongoing need for food assistance in Lee County communities most affected by Hurricane Ian, including Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, North Fort Myers, and Cape Coral. Many of these areas continue to experience food insecurity due to long-term impacts from the hurricane. This funding helps us procure, store, and distribute nutritious food and hygiene items to low-to-moderate income (LMI) households through our established network of over 124 partner agencies.
The Foundation is utilizing microgrant funding to provide healthy food options for Ian survivors in Lee County. The Food Hub Program offers weekly fresh produce deliveries to clients. Participants receive their produce in a reusable crate, which should be placed outside by Thursday night for exchange on Friday morning. The convenience of the program offers a healthy option to many who work during food bank hours and/or cannot afford fresh produce on their own.
