Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. will offer a free Homebuyer Education Workshop on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. until 5:35 p.m. in Spanish, and on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 from 4:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. in English, and on Saturday, May 27 from 8 a.m. until 5:35 p.m. in English at the Catholic Charities office located at 1219 16th Street West in Bradenton.

Four topics to be covered include: Steps To Successful Home Ownership which includes funds available to home buyers as well as fair housing rights; Winning Credit History/Shopping for a Loan which includes items required to make a loan contract, budget and money management, and the loan and application process; Shopping for a Home/Choosing a Realtor which includes what to know when looking for a home and realtor, understanding a sales contract, and negotiation and home inspection; and Home Ownership which includes what it means to be a home owner, how to care for your home and maintain it, security issues and avoiding foreclosure. 

Participants in the workshop will be eligible for assistance from Manatee and Sarasota counties bond and/or grant programs for down payment and closing costs. Upcoming workshops include June 10 in Spanish, June 19 and 20 in English, July 8 in English, and July 24 and 25 in English.


A special Mother's Day Dinner and Show, starring Paul Todd and Paul Todd Jr., will happen on Saturday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at the Wyndemere Country Club located at 700 Wyndemere Way in Naples. The event will benefit the Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center of Catholic Charities. The evening will include cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45 p.m. followed by the show. The cost is $60 per person and tables for eight and 10 people are available. The Catholic Charities center serves the working poor of the greater Naples area with programs and services that help individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency. Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. offers monthly tours of programs in Sarasota County. The next tour will be on Wednesday, May 17 at 9 a.m. Departing from the Catholic Charities office in Sarasota, the tour includes visits to St. Martha's Early Learning Center, Bethesda House, Our Mother's House, and the Catholic Charities Family Haven.
