October

Bradenton

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. will offer a free Home Buyer Education Class on Monday, October 16 and Tuesday, October 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in English, and Saturday, October 28 in Spanish at the Catholic Charities office located at 1219 16th Street West in Bradenton.

Four topics to be covered include: Steps To Successful Home Ownership which includes funds available to home buyers as well as fair housing rights; Winning Credit History/Shopping for a Loan which includes items required to make a loan contract, budget and money management, and the loan and application process; Shopping for a Home/Choosing a Realtor which includes what to know when looking for a home and realtor, understanding a sales contract, and negotiation and home inspection; and Home Ownership which includes what it means to be a home owner, how to care for your home and maintain it, security issues and avoiding foreclosure. 

Participants in the workshop will be eligible for assistance from Manatee and Sarasota counties bond and/or grant programs for down payment and closing costs. Naples

A concert starring Paul Todd and Paul Todd Jr. will happen Saturday, October 28 at the Wyndemere Country Club. The event will benefit the Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center of Catholic Charities which serves those in need in Naples with programs and services to achieve self-sufficiency. The evening will include a silent auction at 5:45 p.m., cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45 p.m. followed by the show. The cost is $60 per person which includes dinner and the show. A cash bar will be available. Attendees will be asked to make a donation on the night of the event for the Catholic Charities center. November

Venice

The Sugar Bowl Show of Shows will be held on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. at the Venice Performing Arts Center. All proceeds will go to the Sugar Bowl Fund for families in the community who are experiencing a financial hardship. Sponsored by Catholic Charities and the local Knights of Columbus Councils, the show will feature Beatles tribute act The Nowhere Band covering the full spectrum of the Beatles' long and varied career with period costumes and authentic instruments. Tickets are $25 or $35 a person.

The 2017 Sunny Jim fundraiser for Our Mother's House of Catholic Charities will be held on Monday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the Boca Royale Country Club in Venice. Our Mother’s House of Catholic Charities provides homeless mothers and their children transitional housing, education, and training. Tickets are $50 a person which includes a $25 donation to the program. The evening will include a tropical buffet and a cash bar.

Venice

A Housewarming Breakfast will be held for Our Mother's House of Catholic Charities on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at the Venice Yacht Club. The Housewarming Breakfast will benefit the two-year residential program which helps homeless mothers and their children to achieve self-sufficiency. Tickets are $20. Housewarming gift suggestions include dishware, glassware, cookware, plasticware, flatware, cooking utensils, dish towels, sponges, twin sheets, twin mattress pads, crib sheets, crib mattress pads, pillows, blankets, comforters, bath towels, washcloths, bath mats, shower curtains and rings, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, paper towels, and gift cards. Sarasota

The Catholic Charities Ball will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Ball Room in Sarasota. All proceeds will benefit the programs and services of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. in Sarasota and Manatee counties which include Our Mother's House, St. Martha's Early Learning Center, Bethesda House, Catholic Charities Family Haven, housing counseling and foreclosure prevention, financial assistance, senior services, professional counseling, refugee services, and immigration services. Bonita Springs

The Venetian Charity Ball will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs. All proceeds will benefit the programs and services of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. in Lee, Hendry, and Glades counties which include Positive Youth Development Program, Senior Support Coordination Program, Human Trafficking Victim Assistance Program, Immigration Services, food assistance and pantries, and direct assistance. The evening will include a cocktail hour, auctions, a raffle for a car and other exciting items, dinner, and dancing. Tickets are $250. The Bethesda House Mardi Gras Madness will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Michael's on East in Sarasota. All proceeds will benefit Bethesda House, a program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. which provides professional and compassionate support services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. All proceeds will benefit Our Mother's House, a program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. which is committed to helping homeless mothers and their children achieve self-sufficiency. The Boots and Bandannas Fiesta will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 6 p.m. at the Kingsway Country Club in Port Charlotte. The Venice Veterans Salute will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Venice Community Center in Venice. The event is a salute to United States military veterans featuring Glenn Leonard presents Hitsville Live! The show will be an authentic revue with the Temptations lead singer performing all the hits of favorite Motown acts. The fundraiser also will include food and drinks for purchase, dancing, an auction, and military displays. All proceeds will benefit programs and services of Catholic Charities that assist veterans. The Teach a Man to Fish Gala will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Englewood Elks Club Lodge #2378 in Englewood. All proceeds will benefit New Paradigm of Catholic Charities which provides affordable, transitional housing to local families who are at risk of becoming homeless as well as the education and training necessary to live an independent life. Fort Myers

The Charity Golf Classic for AFCAAM, a program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Forest Country Club in Fort Myers. All proceeds will benefit the programs available at AFCAAM which include the After-School Reading Program, and the SKILLS Female Mentoring and Straight Talk Male Mentoring programs. Registration is at noon and play begins at 1 p.m. The golf tournament will include a dinner and prizes.
