Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. will offer a free Home Buyer Education Class on Saturday, September 9 in English and Saturday, September 30 in Spanish from 8 a.m. until 5:35 p.m. and on  Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in English at the Catholic Charities office located at 1219 16th Street West in Bradenton.

Four topics to be covered include: Steps To Successful Home Ownership which includes funds available to home buyers as well as fair housing rights; Winning Credit History/Shopping for a Loan which includes items required to make a loan contract, budget and money management, and the loan and application process; Shopping for a Home/Choosing a Realtor which includes what to know when looking for a home and realtor, understanding a sales contract, and negotiation and home inspection; and Home Ownership which includes what it means to be a home owner, how to care for your home and maintain it, security issues and avoiding foreclosure. 

Participants in the workshop will be eligible for assistance from Manatee and Sarasota counties bond and/or grant programs for down payment and closing costs. A Charity Golf Event hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council 9924 will be held on Saturday, October 14 at the Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club. The scramble-style tournament will benefit Our Mother’s House of Catholic Charities which provides homeless mothers and their children transitional housing, education, and training. A concert starring Paul Todd and Paul Todd Jr. will happen on Saturday, October 28 at 6 p.m. at the Wyndemere Country Club. The event will benefit the Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center of Catholic Charities which serves the working poor with programs and services to achieve self-sufficiency. The evening will include cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45 p.m. followed by the show. The cost is $60 per person. For reservations please call Lynn at 239-370-7872.



The Sugar Bowl Show of Shows will be held on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. at the Venice Performing Arts Center. All proceeds will go to the Sugar Bowl Fund for families in the community who are experiencing a financial hardship. Sponsored by Catholic Charities and the local Knights of Columbus Councils, the show will feature Beatles tribute act The Nowhere Band covering the full spectrum of the Beatles' long and varied career with period costumes and authentic instruments. Tickets are $25 or $35 a person.
